Wash Dike
River levels are rising on Wash Dike as a result of heavy rainfall through this afternoon and into the night of Thursday 5th December 2024. Areas most at risk include properties on Fishergate and Vale Crescent in Ferrybridge as well as properties on, or near Bondgate, Cavendish Avenue, Beech Croft and Atkinson Lane in Pontefract. Further rainfall as well as strong winds are forecast associated with Storm Darragh on Friday and Saturday. This could cause river levels to remain high for several days. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. This flood warning has been issued as river levels have risen rapidly due to heavy rain and thunderstorms this evening, Saturday 08/07/2023. These heavy showers are forecast to clear shortly. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Plan driving routes to avoid roads near rivers which may be flooded. Pontefract Wash Dike is rising in response to persistent rainfall this afternoon. It is expected to peak within the next hour and we are monitoring the situation closely as further rainfall is expected later this evening.
