This flood warning has been issued as river levels have risen rapidly due to heavy rain and thunderstorms this evening, Saturday 08/07/2023. These heavy showers are forecast to clear shortly. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Plan driving routes to avoid roads near rivers which may be flooded. Pontefract Wash Dike is rising in response to persistent rainfall this afternoon. It is expected to peak within the next hour and we are monitoring the situation closely as further rainfall is expected later this evening.

Intense rainfall has caused the river to rise rapidly. Flooding is possible. Levels are eexpected to drop later this morning. Stay away from low lying roads and footpaths. We are monitoring the situation and will update this as the situations changes.

River levels have risen as a result of persistent heavy rainfall overnight due to Storm Ciara. A further heavy pulse of rain has caused a sharp river response so property flooding is possible over the next few hours of this morning into early afternoon, 09/02/20. Areas most at risk are properties on Atkinson Lane and around the Bondgate/Cobbles Lane junction. We expect river levels to continue to rise into early afternoon Sunday.
